Catskills: Heat Advisory For Region Today, With Heat Index Expected To Hit 100


hwThe National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region today, effective from noon to 8 p.m.

The combination of heat and humidity is expected to produce a heat index value of about 100 degrees.

Persons outdoors for prolonged periods will be at risk for heat-related illnesses.

Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room when possible, stay out of the sun, and check on the condition of relatives and neighbors.

Also, take extra precautions when working or spending time outside, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

· Today: Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

· Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

· Tuesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Sunny, with a high near 95. North wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

· Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. Calm wind.

· Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Light west wind.
· Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

· Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 94.

· Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71.

· Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 94.

· Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

· Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
