Help Save A Life In Flatbush This Sunday!

sol.jpgOn Sunday, December 23, you will have the opportunity to save the life of a child who is desperately battling against a serious life threatening illness. We will be holding a bone marrow drive in order to recruit as many potential donors as possible, with the hope of finding a match for her and many others who are desperately awaiting a bone marrow transplant.

All that will be asked of you is a few minutes of your time, a sample of cells (taken by you personally with a simple cotton swab) from the inside of your cheeks, and the intention to seriously consider giving of yourself should you be found to be a match. No bloodwork will be required at this time.

The drive will take place in Touro College, at 1602 Avenue J in Flatbush. It is scheduled for Sunday, the 23rd of December, from 11:00am to 7:00pm.

To request additional information or to volunteer at the drive, please contact Chana Faigy Lieberman at [email protected] or 347.407.1016.

Please print the attached flyer and post it in your shul, school or office. In addition, please forward this email and pass on the opportunity for this mitzva to as many people as you can come in contact with.

Thank you, and Tizku L’Mitzvos!!

  1. This is such a great idea!! I’m definately going to be there and i think that anyone else who could make it should definately come as well! tizku limitzvos!

  2. It would be more to the point if you state the child’s ethnicity. Hungarian, Polish, teimani. It would narrow the search and people that are more likely to be donors may put themselves out more, for one of their own. (I know we’re supposed to have ahavas yisroel for everybody) But if the chances are one in a million, I might not be as pressured to go, as if they would be one in a few thousand. Agav, it’s a good idea to be tested anyway, to get your name on the marrow donor list, so if GF it’s needed in the future, more names will available on a much shorter notice. (Yes, I’m on the list for years.)

  3. If you’d like to do it yourself at home, you can log on to http://www.giftoflife.org and click register. They will lead you through the process of having a kit sent to your home. The cost is subsidized, however there is a minimal charge to cover the kit, thus if you can attend the drive in person you can register at a fully subsidized no-cost price!
    Thank you and tizku l’mitzvos!

  4. As for the ethnicity question,, this particular child is ashkenazi, however the drive will also be to benefit other children waiting for a match who do not wish to have their photo or situations publicized. Anyone who is of Jewish decent will be of great help in increasing our database of available donors with similar tissue type.
