Trump Slams AG Sessions: Why Isn’t Obama Under Investigation Over Russia Election Meddling?

President Donald Trump slammed the attorney general on Wednesday, calling on his more than 48 million Twitter followers to “ask Jeff Sessions” why the Obama administration is not the focus of the special counsel’s Russia probe.

“If all of the Russian meddling took place during the Obama Administration,” Trump rhetorically asked in a tweet, “why aren’t they the subject of the investigation?”

Trump tweet: Question: If all of the Russian meddling took place during the Obama Administration, right up to January 20th, why aren’t they the subject of the investigation? Why didn’t Obama do something about the meddling? Why aren’t Dem crimes under investigation? Ask Jeff Session!

The Justice Department declined to comment on Trump’s tweet.

Trump and Sessions were in the Oval Office together on Tuesday during an event honoring law enforcement officials. The two, according to a source, did not interact much while taking photos.

Trump has previously criticized Obama for not doing more to prevent meddling.

During the 2016 campaign, President Barack Obama called out Russia for political interference when much less was known about it and followed up after the election by expelling 35 Russian diplomats suspected of being intelligence officers.

The president initially misspelling the attorney general’s name as “Session”.

Trump later sent out an updated version of the tweet with the correct spelling of Sessions’ name.

  1. Can someone explain to me, if Russia is suspected of meddling then what has that to do with the AG? It isn’t a matter of American law, as Russia is not an American citizen. For example, if Russia were to attack the USA somewhere, say shoot down a fighter, no-one would ask the AG what he had to say. It would be up to the military chain of command to decide how to react. Meddling in an election is certainly aggression at least as bad, it should be Trump and the generals deciding what to do?

And if Sessions is supposed to be investigating collusion by USA citizens, then Trump’s tweet doesn’t make any sense (perhaps not so surprising). Obama obviously isn’t under investigation because he isn’t accused of collusion.

Just trying to work it out

  2. Because it isn’t illegal to say false things during an election campaign (if it was, all politicans would be in jail and there would be no one left to run the country). Getting a foreign power to make manipulative statements to help one’s election chances might be an impeachable offense, but it isn’t a criminal offense. And one can’t impeach a retired president (at least, no one ever tried to impeach a retired office holder).

  3. President Golfer is out of his mind! Why not investigate Lincoln for the civil war? This man is so out of touch he’s a danger and threat to the security of the country.

  4. Re y2r’s comment: Trump would rather complain about the attorney general he appointed than fire him. And who, in his/her right mind, would take a job in the Trump administration? Trump smears his own appointees.

And who says Mueller is not investigating events and circumstances during the Obama administration? He is, and he’s getting quite a few guilty pleas. I wouldn’t call that worseless, or worthless.
