WATCH: Met Council Runs America’s Largest Pesach Food Distribution – Gives The Food To Almost Every Distribution In NY

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

How do you provide free Kosher for Pesach food to 180,000 people? It’s not as easy as it sounds. Just about every single Pesach food distribution in New York gets their food for free from Met Council – the largest Jewish communal social safety net in America.

Everyone from the UJO of Williamsburg to Bais Yaakov of Boro Park to COJO of Flatbush gets their free Pesach food from Met Council. That’s 120 organization in all.

In this exclusive YWN video, watch as David G. Greenfield, Met Council’s CEO, gives a two-minute behind the scenes tour of one of two Met Council warehouses that receive and distribute all the food to 120 Pesach food distributions this month.

“This year was historic. We gave out 1000 tons of food through 997 volunteers and 120 community based organizations – all free. We even doubled the amount of protein this year to over 200,000 pounds of chicken, fish and eggs through our new Pesach food campaign. That made our Met Council Pesach food distribution the largest ever in North America,” explained Greenfield.

This year, to better serve the 180,000 clients and their nutritional needs, Met Council’s CEO, David G. Greenfield, raised an additional $350,000 specifically for extra Glatt Kosher Pesach protein that is being distributed including over 100,000 extra pounds of chicken, fish and eggs.

Met Council is on track this year to supplying needy households with 2 million pounds of fresh food for Pesach. Met Council is also providing almost $500,000 to 2,593 households in specially coded American Express Food Cards that can only be used in kosher supermarkets.

“We are fortunate to have a community that really understands the mitzvah of Kimcha D’Pischa. Literally, every mosod, shul and organization in New York participates in this mitzvah. It’s our zchus at the Met Council to be serving almost all of them by providing the food needed to enjoy Pesach,” Greenfield concluded.
