No Guns Allowed At NRA Convention When Trump, Pence Speak

Attendees at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Dallas can carry their firearms — except during the forum where President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence speak Friday.

A White House official said Monday that Trump will attend Friday. Pence had already been slated to speak at Friday’s leadership forum.

The NRA has said on its website that due to Pence’s attendance, the U.S. Secret Service is responsible for security then. It’s standard for the Secret Service to bar firearms from being carried into places visited by the people they protect, regardless of state laws.

Some students at the Parkland, Florida, high school where 17 people were killed in February criticized the NRA on social media for what they see as hypocrisy.

Guns were also banned during Trump’s appearance at the NRA’s annual meeting in Atlanta last year.

  1. wow! brilliant AP article! can you believe the hypocrisy that when joint chiefs of staff meet to discuss next rules of engagement in Afghanistan there are no tanks or even machine guns allowed into the meeting! what hypocrites!

  2. Evidently the Secret Service has its doubts about NRA members. Maybe not every guy with a gun is good.

  3. Um “Midwest2” you do know it is federal law that you cannot bring a firearm within a certain number of yards or in the same room as any person under secret service protection. The Secret Service has no doubts about any NRA members, its just enforcing a federal law.
And the Media making a big deal that the NRA is following Federal Law and the Secret Service, I mean the NRA’s biggest thing is to follow all Gun Laws and they offer free classes so people don’t accidentally violate gun laws. Such a shocker that a organization representing 5 million Law Abiding Citizens would follow the Law, wow, great journalism!
