Three Shomrim NW London Volunteers Receive Awards From Police For Brave Actions

Last Thursday, 3 volunteers from Shomrim North West London were presented with a letter from Barnet Borough Commander, Det Chief Superintendent Simon Rose in recognition for their brave actions and assisting police after the report of a robbery.

The Shomrim volunteers were formally thanked for assisting police by apprehending two suspects who were subsequently arrested by police for robbery and were found in possession of knives.

The framed letters were presented by Inspector Jason Moseley of Barnet Police in presence of Rabbi S Winegarten.

Inspector Jason Moseley said “As the community Inspector for Barnet it was my pleasure to recognize community spirited actions. Organisations such as Shomrim NW provide an extra layer of protection for the community and it is only right that their actions are applauded. In this instance the volunteers assisted in identifying suspects that had committed a knife enabled robbery. Each volunteer was furnished with a letter of thanks from Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Rose. Borough Commander for North West Basic Command Unit.”

Gavriel Ost, Chief Executive of Shomrim NW London told YWN “With knife crime at unprecedented levels, day in, day out, Shomrim volunteers are on the streets confronting and catching the criminals who prey on Londoners. Our neighborhood watch patrols are already recognized as the gold standard in community crime prevention, and I am proud that our volunteers’ selflessness and exceptional bravery has now been recognized too”

Those receiving awards were Mr H Peretz, Mr Y David & Mr S Lipschitz

The awards read as follows:

I am told that you were instrumental in identifying the suspects after you saw males fitting the descriptions given by the victim you updated police and followed the males. I understand that when police approached the males they ran off in different directions and you then further assisted police by chasing after the suspects they were unable to follow. Between you and you fellow Shomrim volunteers you detained one of the males and kept him there until further police arrived. Your actions meant that 2 suspects were arrested for robbery and when officers searched them they were found in possession of knives.

At a time when so many people are willing to turn away from helping others you took that brave step to assist where you could.

Thank you for your assistance. I am proud to have you as a member of the community for which I have the privilege of being the Borough Commander.”
