Sullivan County residents will soon be able to receive emergency notifications about flooding or other problems once the county completes its tie-in with the E-Alert notification system.

The program will allow residents to receive e-mail or telephone notifications about severe weather or other concerns and the county is moving toward that goal, said county E-911 Coordinator Alex Rau.

�We�ve have been sending some test messages to a test group. It has been working well,� he said. �In theory, if we had to blast out an emergency notification by telephone, we do have that capability.�

The county still has some issues to resolve, including privacy laws and the fact that Sullivan is served by more than one telephone company.
