yw logo4.jpg*New York Gov. David Paterson is scheduled to meet privately on Thursday afternoon with Al Sharpton,  and the family of the fatal NYPD shooting victim Sean Bell – a day after protests took place around NYC.

*There was an emotional ceremony Wednesday, as 11 names were added to the NYPD’s Wall of Heroes. Three were officers shot in the line of duty, but eight others died from illnesses linked to their time spent at ground zero in the weeks following the 9/11 attacks.

*A little girl is lucky to be alive Wednesday night, after wandering away from her home and ending up nearly a mile away in a neighboring city. CBS 2 has the little girl’s frightening journey and introduces us to the Good Samaritan who found her clutching a teddy bear in the middle of a street in Elmwood Park.

*A civil liberties group filed a lawsuit Wednesday challenging the NYPD’s practice of stopping hundreds of thousands of people each year for questioning, saying it is racially biased. The New York Civil Liberties Union lawsuit lists New York Post reporter Leonardo Blair as the sole plaintiff, saying he was stopped and frisked by police officers as he walked from his car to his Bronx home last November.

*(Ulster County, NY) The Ellenville Village Board has approved a 6 percent increase in the village’s biggest fund, boosting it to $3.7 million for 2008-09.

*A construction worker died after falling 30 to 40 feet from a scaffold on the Tri-Boro-Bridge.

*A new policy at 911 call centers is cutting down on the FDNY response times, but some say the emergency crews are getting to the emergency scenes without all the facts.

*Woodbury, NY: Alternating lane closures are on schedule this week at the Woodbury Toll Barrier as the New York State Thruway Authority continues work on the Highway Speed E-ZPass project.

*The FBI is training local police on Long Island on what to look for in a crime scene involving bombs. The training is aimed to provide defense and security against terrorism.

*The NYS Senate passed legislation on Wednesday in favor of suspending the gasoline tax for the summer – saving residents 32 cents per gallon. The bill would eliminate the gas tax between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.

*For the next month, police across Rockland County, NY will be cracking down, and issuing fines, to folks not wearing seat-belts. Please make sure to buckle up no matter where you are!

  1. how sad that we only wear seat belts because we are afraid of getting a fine.
    What ever happened to following the law and not making a chillul hashem?
    How about actually showing our children that we want to be safe?
