Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem may be on the chopping block as turmoil inside the Department of Homeland Security grows, according to a new report.

The Bulwark, citing three former DHS officials who served under both Biden and Trump, reports that senior White House staff are �frustrated� with Noem�s leadership and believe she has allowed political operative Corey Lewandowski to wield an �outsized role� inside the department. Lewandowski, a longtime Trump ally with a history of controversy, denied the accusations, calling the report �not true.�

Despite Trump personally liking Noem, sources told the outlet the president is �considering moving on from Noem � really soon,� with one official describing the situation as �fluid.�

Waiting in the wings is a heavyweight Republican: Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who leaves office in mid-January. CNN previously reported that Youngkin preferred an economic-focused portfolio but would still be �excited� to take any Cabinet role, including Homeland Security.

Noem, for her part, is visibly working to remain in Trump�s favor. In a widely mocked moment during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, she praised Trump for supposedly preventing natural disasters: �You made it through the hurricane season without a hurricane,� she said. �You kept the hurricanes away.�

But the situation inside DHS appears far more chaotic than Noem�s public flattery suggests. One current DHS official, speaking through a former colleague, reportedly described the department as spiraling.

�Things are [a mess],� the official told the Bulwark. �They�re going to destroy this place. I�m just hoping the new secretary gets here in time.�

If Trump pulls the trigger, it would mark the fastest Cabinet-level shake-up of his new term.
