AMBUSH IN SYRIA: Two U.S. Soldiers, American Interpreter, Killed In ISIS Attack; Trump Vows “Very Serious Retaliation”

President Donald Trump issued a forceful warning Saturday following a deadly ISIS attack in Syria that claimed the lives of two US Army soldiers and an American civilian interpreter, making clear that the United States will respond decisively if its forces are attacked again.

Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House for the annual Army–Navy football game, President Trump said the nation is mourning the loss of the fallen Americans, who were ambushed by a lone ISIS gunman. Three additional US soldiers were wounded in the attack but are “doing well,” according to the president.

The wounded were airlifted by helicopter to the al-Tanf garrison near the Syrian border with Iraq and Jordan, The Associated Press reported, citing Syrian state media.

Trump later expanded on the incident in a post on Truth Social, warning of imminent consequences.

“There will be very serious retaliation,” Trump wrote.

“This was an ISIS attack against the U.S., and Syria, in a very dangerous part of Syria, that is not fully controlled by them,” he added. “The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the attack took place while the US troops were conducting a key leader engagement as part of their mission supporting ongoing counter-ISIS and counterterrorism operations in the region.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed that the ISIS gunman was killed by partner forces.

The names of the fallen soldiers and identifying information about their units are being withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notifications are completed.
