YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Reb Yeruchim Leshinsky Z”L, a longtime Maggid Shiur in the Mirrer Yeshiva for 65 years. He was 89.
Reb Yeruchim spent his entire life, literally, within the walls of the Mirrer Yeshiva, where he became a beloved marbitz Torah to generations of talmidim. He would spend many hours giving chizuk to bochurim who were struggling, learning with them for hours and guiding them with patience and warmth. He was an exceptional mechanech, offering hadracha to other rabbeim in the yeshiva as well.
He was likely the last person born in Mir, Poland before World War II, where his father, HaRav Dovid Leshinsky Z”L, learned. At the beginning of the war, he came to America via Japan together with the historic flight of the Mirrer Yeshiva.
In his final days, despite generally being in good health, he remarked several times that he was preparing to leave this world. Early in the morning, around 4:30 a.m., he awoke and suddenly collapsed, and was niftar shortly thereafter, in what is described as a misa neshika.
He was predeceased by his sister, Rebbetzin Rivka Kreiser A”H, wife of Hagaon HaRav Aharon Kreiser ZT”L; his brother, HaRav Yaakov Leshinsky ZT”L of Yerushalayim; and his sister, Rebbetzin Rochel Brudny A”H.
He leaves behind an extraordinary family of marbitzei Torah and talmidei chachomim.
He is survived by his choshuva wife, Rebbetzin Libby Leshinsky, daughter of Hagaon HaRav Avigdor Miller ZT”L.
His children include Reb Shmuel, Reb Avrohom, Reb Yitzy, Mrs. Avigail Klein, Mrs. Batsheva Alpert, and Mrs. Shulamis Fischoff.
The levaya is expected to take place at 12:30pm at the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn on Sunday. The time will be announced. Kevura will take place in Yerushalayim.
