PHOTOS: UJO Of Williamsburg & Met Council Collaborate On Major Food Distribution

[PHOTO LINK BELOW] Today the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg conducted their a major Passover distribution in conjunction with Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty (Met Council).

UJO of Williamsburg has been serving the Williamsburg Hasidic community for 47 years, a community of over 70,000 people where large family size – more than eight people in a family is the rule, not the exception – contributes to a growing need for food assistance.

This Passover distribution brought thousands of pounds of fresh produce, grape juice, and frozen poultry and meat to more than 3,000 families in the Williamsburg community who live in poverty.  With the help provided, families in need will be able to focus on celebrating Passover instead of worrying about raising money to cover their food bills for the seder.

The President of the UJO, Rabbi David Niederman, said “Today’s food distribution demonstrated that community is absolutely committed to ensuring that not one family is passed over in their ability to celebrate the mitzvah Sipur Yitzias Mitzrayim (the retelling of the Jewish exodus from Egypt).

This distribution would not have been possible without the efforts and tireless work of the CEO of Met Council, Willie Rapfogel and his outstanding team of dedicated individuals at Met Council who stand ready, day in and day out for families, seniors and children who are struggling to survive in today’s harsh economy, be it with food, housing, counseling or the many other services they provide to people in crisis.

We also would like to thank one of today’s sponsors, the Mayor of Englewood and Manhattan Immigration Attorney, Michael Wildes for his generosity, and to Shomrim and the many other volunteers who were on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly and efficiently for the thousands that attended.”
