Message to the Baltimore community

chai baltimore logo.jpgCHAI, Shomrim, the NWCP and neighborhood association leadership have been working very closely with the Police Department, the Mayor’s office and the immediate neighbors, since the assaults over the first day of Pesach, to arrest the perpetrators and to do everything possible to make sure that there are no repetitions. To date two juveniles have been arrested.

The Mayor was outraged when she heard about these assaults (particularly because of the timing at the beginning of Pesach) and immediately demanded that everything possible be done by the police and other agencies to arrest the perpetrators and to strengthen security in the vicinity.

Most of the people who live in that immediate area are well aware of the efforts that have been made. During Chol HaMoed Pesach, immediately after the attacks, a meeting of the Fallstaff Improvement Association, where the incidents occurred, was attended by over 50 residents and officials from the Mayor’s office, the police, Shomrim, NWCP, and CHAI. Since that time there have been constant patrols of the area by the Police, Shomrim and the NWCP.

Emails being circulated unfortunately discount the 100% effort that is being made by the community and the City. In fact, we cannot think of another incident when there was greater cooperation and combined effort than has been made in this case.

While we have a right to expect public safety, our safety does require cooperative relations with the Police Department and all of our elected officials. What our three organizations feel is needed from the community at this time is a strong message of support and appreciation for the efforts made in the immediate aftermath of the incident and for the continued efforts of the police, the Patrol, CHAI, and the Shomrim.

We all share the feelings of outrage about theses episodes and believe in everyone’s right to criticize and provide constructive suggestions, but we urge everyone to do so with utmost respect and derech eretz. Furthermore, we urge everyone to listen to the history of the incidents as presented by the police and others with first hand knowledge of the events before drawing conclusions.

Because the meeting tomorrow evening (tonight Tuesday evening) is a local Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association meeting and not a community wide forum, we hope that common sense will prevail.

Sincerely,

  1. Something is quite strange here.

I live in Baltimore, and yesterday I received the following email sent by Shomrim.

    “THREE ATTACKS within 24 HOURS!!!!!!!!:

    1. First night of Pesach — Dorset Place — Orthodox man attacked in front
of son with a large stick on his own block.
    2. First Day of Pesach — broad daylight — Labyrinth Road. Orthodox man
attacked in front of his pregnant wife. Rendered unconscious at the scene
and lost teeth from the severe beating to his head. Had to be rushed to the
    hospital via ambulance.
    3. First Day of Pesach — not long after the Labyrinth Road attack –
Labyrinth and Gist Avenue — Another Orthodox man was attacked in front of
his wife and 8 and 6 year old daughters. His injuries resulted in 4 hours
of surgery to have THREE plates put in his face to fix fractures to his eye
and sinus area. His wife and young daughters are traumatized.

This is not to be taken lightly or to be treated as merely Juveniles. These
individuals were targeted because they were Orthodox Jews. These attacks
are so brazen — occurring during daylight hours in front of witnesses.
Even when the third victim ran – he was chased and beaten more. The vicious
attackers used a ruse — In the third case, the attackers approached the
victim and said, “Do you have the time, Sir.” They then attacked before
waiting for a response. The damage done indicates the use of a rock or hard
    weapon of some sort.

SHOMRIM has responded en masse to these crimes and was able to locate one
of the attackers at a home near Clarinth Road. The police had one juvenile
attacker in custody but he has BEEN RELEASED to commit more crimes.

Sheila Dixon will be at the meeting Tuesday night to talk about improving
our neighborhood – including paving Cross Country Boulevard. We are here
tonight to show that BEFORE PAVING OUR STREETS, CLEAN THEM UP FIRST!

WE NEED COMMUNITY SUPPORT TO SHOW THE MAYOR THAT WE ARE CONCERNED AND WANT
    RESULTS!!!! PROSECUTE THE INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE!!!!

EVERYONE IS URGED TO COME TO THE MEETING ON TUESDAY NIGHT TO SHOW SUPPORT
    — THE MORE PEOPLE, THE MORE IMPACT WE HAVE —

SHEILA DIXON, MAYOR WILL BE AT THE GLEN NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY MEETING ON
TUESDAY NIGHT, APRIL 17TH AT 7 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. AT THE PARK HEIGHTS JCC,
    5700 PARK HEIGHTS AVENUE

MAKE IT A POINT TO BE THERE”

Can Shomrim please get their act together?!!

  2. Part of the problem is that the Democrats are in power. If there were more Republicans than there would be a chance that stricter laws would be passed in Annapolis and that there would be more aggresive policing. But with the Democrats in power and no one really willing to stop them, you can forget it. But, it is only part of the picture.

  3. Wake up Baltimore Frum community. There is only one way to deal with the trash that is guilty of these crimes. Your local liberal officials will do nothing for you. Take care of this problem now before he gets older, and does something worse.
