A Quinnipiac poll shows Police Commissioner Ray Kelly’s approval ratings are slightly down, but the commissioner’s overall approval rate is still 62 percent.
As Kelly visited on Sunday the Rehoboth Cathedral in Flatbush, Brooklyn, one of the religious groups in the NYPD-Brooklyn Clergy Coalition, he told reporters that he was aware of the recent drop in his popularity.
However, Kelly said he thinks city police officers are doing the best they can to keep New York safe.
“Any poll numbers I get one way or the other are a reflection of the work of the men and women of the department, and I think I’ve said many times that people want to be safe. They’ve kept this city safe with 6,000 fewer officers than 10 years ago,” Kelly said.
The commissioner also said crime is at a record low in New York City, and the NYPD is the most diverse it has ever been.
