In the wake of Ami Magazines publicity about Yanky Ostreichers imprisonment in Bolivia, the fight for his freedom was heightened this week as the US House of Representatives subcommittee on human rights held a hearing on this matter. Soon after, the head of the subcommittee, New Jersey congressman Chris Smith, flew down to Bolivia to meet Mr. Ostreicher and attend a judicial hearing on his behalf. Rabbi Aaron Kotler CEO of BMG who first brought the Yanky Ostreicher case to Smiths attention and asked Rep. Smith to take on Yankys case, in an interview with Ami this week, credits Ami Magazines coverage with jumpstarting the effort to free Yanky. Ami also interviewed Representative Smith, both after his congressional hearing and after the court hearing in Bolivia, as well as Steve Moore, the ex-FBI agent who has advocated for Yanky and testified on his account. The article reveals the way in which the State Departments inaction on Yanky mirrors their apathy on both human rights and the legal rights of Americans around the world.

Unfortunately, Hilary thinks championing the rights of blind Chinese dissidents is more important than fighting for a wrongly imprisoned American. Goes to show you where her priorities and her heart lie.
the secretary of state gets her marching orders from the white house. As far as the white house is concerned mr oestreicher is a member of the 1% and is not someone they care about. Blind chineese dissidents appeal to the “99%” crowd as such the guy becomes a cause celebre. In short, the white house priorities lie where the most favorable votes are found.
