Elor Azariya Enters Prison On Wednesday, 17 Av

Elor Azariya has decided not to appeal his case to the High Court of Justice as reported by YWN-ISRAEL. He decided to go a different route, to send a letter to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott asking for leniency. Eizenkott released a statement saying that if Azariya requests leniency, admits to the error of his ways and expresses remorse, he would give such a request serious consideration.

Azariya now requested delaying the start of his prison sentence until Eizenkott announces his decision but this request was denied by the military appeals court on Monday, 15 Menachem Av. As a result, Elor will begin serving his 18-month sentence on the manslaughter conviction on Wednesday, 17 Av.

In line with military law, the IDF Chief will render his decision between September 7th and October 7th, a month after the appeals court decision.

  1. The young soldier, Azariya is a hero and did what he was trained to do. For some reason, some people are selected to be a korban, an example. It is very unfair to so severely punish this young soldier, when the terrorists get away with MURDER. Let’s protect our own, not kneecap the army.

  2. At least he is entering prison with the overwhelming sympathy of the majority of Jewish people in Israel and abroad.
