MKs To Be Permitted To Visit Har Habayis Tuesday, 7 Elul

Israel Police will on Tuesday, 7 Elul, permit Members of Knesset to visit Har Habayis, Channel 2 News reported. The ban against elected officials visiting the holy site will be lifted for one day as a litmus test to determine the Muslim reaction.

While persons who initiated the visit hoped to have the ban lifted for a week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would only agree to a one-day lifting of the ban.

On Wednesday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul, MKs Muallem and Glick tried visiting Har Habayis, using their effort to direct media attention to their plight as MKs, prohibited from visiting. Police did not permit them onto the holy site.

Gedolei Yisrael over the generations and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel prohibit visiting Har Habayis, which they explain carries the punishment of karess.
