Senator Storobin Demands Apology From Mayor Bloomberg

The following is a press release from Senator David Storobin:

“The people of my district and the entire Jewish community are deeply offended and appalled by the comment Mayor Bloomberg made the other day to ‘The Atlantic’, of how proud he is standing up to “10,000 black hats” protesting against his aggressive approach in imposing regulations on metzitah b’peh- an old-aged traditional practice of circumcision. The Mayor’s utter ignorance doesn’t stop by raising taxes and hurting small businesses in our community, but now by insulting and demeaning an entire community for standing up for their rights of religious freedom. This is the same ‘Black Hat’ Jewish community that supported Mike Bloomberg for 3 terms.”

“I call upon the mayor to retract his affronting comment and immediately apologize to the Orthodox Jewish community, or else be hold responsible and resign from his post.”

  1. Not at all surprising that during the campaign Storobin would issue such a press release in order to ingratiate himself to the frum community. Prior to his seeking his present seat in the Senate to replace the disgraced Karl Kruger there is no evidence that he advocated for or even had any contact with the frum community. Now that he’s running for a seat with a large number of frum Jews, he’s wearing a yamulka and getting involved in our issues.

He demonstrates political pandering at it’s best. During his 2 weeks in the Senate he introduced bills with no co sponsers to reinstate the death penalty and to repeal that marriage bill, knowing that they had no chance of getting anywhere except in press releases.

    I find such behavior offensive.

  2. Common Storobin…you’re either playing naked politics, are weak kneed – or both. This is humorous, and a testament to the political clout of the Chareidim. Why should self-described “black hats” be oputraged by the Mayor’s comment?
