Jerusalem Hopes to Lead the Nation in Recycling and Sorting

Jerusalem Councilman Yitzchak Pindrus, who holds the sanitation portfolio, remains committed to a better environment and announced that the city will take the lead in Israel and begin sorting trash towards improved recycling. He adds that the current dump site in Abu Dis will no longer be used and a new site will be set up.

The old methodology of burying refuse without sorting is an ecological nightmare and Pindrus plans to bring this to an end. He explains the Abu Dis site has reached capacity and an alternate site is warranted, working with City Hall and the Ministry of Environmental Affairs.

Towards achieving this goal the city plans to immediately begin sorting to sharply reduce the amount of trash that is taken to the dump which dramatically increasing the amount of items that may be recycled. This sorting center will be set up in Atarot in the northern capital, and Deputy Mayor Pindrus is pleased the capital is taking this giant step towards a more ecological solution down the road.
