Flatbush: Thief Swipes Car With Sefer Torah Inside

A car thief made off with a 2007 Toyota Corolla containing a Torah worth approximately $30,000 on Motzei Shabbos, according to the NYPD.

The car was stolen from outside the Congregation Agudath Sholom of Flatbush, at 3714 18th Ave., near Coney Island Avenue, about 6 p.m., cops said.

The thief swiped the driver’s keys and wallet, which had been left somewhere in the synagogue, police said.

It’s unclear if the thief was aware the Torah was inside the car when he or she stole it.

The victim, who works at the synagogue, lost other personal items, including some credit cards and articles of clothing that were stored in the car, cops said.

The attached photo was supplied by the NYPD to YWN NYC. It is not an actual image of the stolen Sefer Torah. YWN has also not confirmed if the stolen Sefer Torah looked like this, without the Eitzei Chaim attached.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
