Feiglin Visit to Har Habayis Sparks an Incident and Closure to Visitors

hhaIt is a known fact that Moshe Feiglin, today a MK, visits Har Habayis monthly for many years. He is an outspoken advocate of Israel asserting its control over the Holy Site. On Monday morning 22 Adar 5773, the MK visited in the expectation of gaining access to areas previously closed off to him for now, he enjoys parliamentary immunity.

Feiglin tried to enter one of the mosques, sparking an immediate reaction from Muslims in the area. He was blocked from entering and Israel Police quickly intervened. Feiglin explained that as an MK he is entitled to enter. He adds police told him that the mosque is under the jurisdiction of the Muslim Waqf Authority, not Israel, and therefore, they cannot assist him.

Feiglin was escorted by police and promptly taken off Har Habayis. Jerusalem police officials ordered the Har Habayis closed to non-Islamic visitors for the remainder of the day.

Israel Police released a statement that Feiglin tried to enter a mosque, which is off limits to non-Muslims, after which he was escorted out of the area.

It must be noted that according to the Poskei Hador one is absolutely forbidden to visit the Temple Mount, and there is an Issur Kares for one that goes there.

Four years ago on Sukkos, Israeli President Shimon Peres paid a visit to the Sukkah of Maran Hagon Rav Elyashiv ZATZAL, where Rav Elyashiv called on the President to prevent Jews from visiting Har HaBayis, stating it is an act that that is viewed as extremely provocative by the goyim. Maran stated everything possible must be done to avoid a religious war, and the provocateurs are playing with fire.

Maran is quoted as explaining to the president that Halacha forbids going onto Har HaBayis but today, it is more than this, it is an act that may lead to a religious war and bloodshed.

  1. Why provoke a fight now. Except for some people who are totally “nuts”, no one, even the most fanatic religious zionists, hold that one can start doing korbonos at this time. And the process by which we will be able to again do korbonos will of necessity deal with the problem of the Muslims occupying the Har ha-Bayis.

  2. You are aware that Moshe Feiglin is on record about his plans to reinstitute Korban Pesach, right? Your question is not nearly as rhetorical as you think it is.

  3. Not everyone has to hold according to one Rav and he isn’t holding like Rav Elyashiv, he is holding like Rav Goren (whether you agree with Rav Goren’s Psak is up to you, but you can’t tell someone he is doing wrong for holding like a different Rav).

  4. tjere was a long discussion in the mid-nineteenth century betweem great poskim- amongst them Rabbi Akiva Eiger zzl and the Chassam ofer zzl about the re-institution of korbanos- at least korban pessach. it is not out of bounds at all.

  5. “the re-institution of korbanos- at least korban pessach. it is not out of bounds at all.”

Not “at least korban pesach”, only korban pesach can be considered nowadays. The rest of them, either aren’t doiche tumah, or must be bought with machatsis hashekel.

So it’s a anarchy free-for-all up to any child in middle school? Or is it for those who seize and wrap themselves in high falutin’ prestigious titles?

When r. Shlomo Goren visited L.A., R’ Moshe Feinstein proclaimed that no rabbinic kavod should be shown toward him.
