Deri Announces a New Sephardi Newspaper

deriShas on Thursday night, the eve of 12 Kislev held an event in Bayit Vegan Yerushalayim for its representatives in local government around the country. It appears this is part of Aryeh Deri’s plan for rehabilitating the party.

Taking part in the event were rabbonim shlita from Shas’ Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah. At the event, party leader Deri announced that part of his vision includes launching a new Sephardi newspaper, one that will mimic the style of Yated Neeman and HaPeles, which he explained to his audience is linked to the litvish Ashkenazi community. He did not detail if this will be in addition to or in place of the party’s Yom L’Yom newspaper.

Deri then went on to address the issues in the south, in Netivot in particular. The prominent Netivot mekubal/rosh yeshiva who police suspect of putting out a hit on Rabbi Yaakov Effergan was remanded again on Thursday, 11 Kislev 5774. The rav is suspect of hiring the services of the Domrani crime family.

In light of the recent events, including the Lod District Court decision to override a magistrate court and keep the rabbi in incarceration, the Shas party has come out publically giving a chizuk to the rav, Rabbi YA.

Deri added “I debated the matter for the arrest of the rav is a capital case issue and I wonder what I must do. At the advice of HaGaon HaRav Shimon Ba’adani I going to wait for now. I also consulted with HaGaon HaRav Moshe Maya Shlita today as well as speaking to one of the most prominent lawyers in the country today. He too instructed me to wait. I do not wish to elaborate on this.”

“Nevertheless we must hold his hand for the rav is among the great disseminators of Torah in our generation, which he does with mesirus nefesh. We are standing behind the rav and his family and it is our hope he will return home very soon and resume spreading Torah.”

  1. the continuing politicization of the Torah world will eventually bring it to ruin. When the most important facet in the bnei Torah’s life is pushing a political agenda, something become putrid in the beis medresh.

Until now the gedolim deal with the politicians and kept the tumah from the rest of the kahal. Now it is spreading into the besi medresh.

May HaShem give us a respite from this sheretz.

  2. The last thing that harav YA needs right now is advice from the convicted felon Deri. His case (or the part of it that has been reported) is strange enough as it is.
