High Court Rules Former Nuclear Spy Vanunu May Not Leave Israel

vanunuFormer nuclear spy Mordechai Vanunu has once again walked away from the Supreme Court with a feeling of defeat. He petitioned the court seeking to lift the travel ban that prohibits him from leaving Israel.

That ban began in 2005 when Vanunu was released from jail after serving his sentence on an espionage conviction which stemmed from his providing the media in the UK with classified information pertaining to Israel’s nuclear program.

Back in 2010 he was sent back to jail for violating his parole, making contact with foreign agents.

In his latest appeal the court accepted the state’s evidence which labels him a security threat and therefore, he cannot leave the country and he must continue living out his life with the restrictions set forth when released from prison.
