Beit Shemesh Residents Demanding to Secede from City Hall

abutbulAbout 100 Beit Shemesh residents, those unwilling to accept the outcome of the city’s reelection, demonstrated on Tuesday 16 Adar II calling to divide the city into two municipalities.

Supporters of the plan feel residents will be best served in the city is divided into two, permitting the traditional and dati leumi sectors to run their own lives while chareidim would do the same, albeit in a different municipality.

  1. the mayor himself was asked about this during the campaign, and basically he said that this is impossible, since many chareidim live in the “old” neighbourhoods of beit shemesh, such as the Kirya

  2. Hahah, a bunch of sore losers who cannot live with democracy suddenly want to “secede”. If they can secede, any blocks within their new “city” can secede from them and return to the real Beit Shemesh city with Mayor Abutbol!

  3. Children, grow up and face the music already. Kicking your feet and screaming don’t work for alleged adults!

  4. Well, I was sad to see Eli Cohen lose, but this time, at least, it seems there were no significant irregularities. To me that means Abutbul won. Those disappointed need to bide their time and build consensus for the next election, or they need to leave if they can’t accept the status quo. I think many will leave. I wonder about the local tax base in the community if they are not replaced with Chareidi business owners and professionals.

  5. Keep calm everyone this is just a Purim joke! Just like Yerushalayim, Beit Shemesh will never be divided. Just like Yerushalayim there will be those in the city who value Yiddishkeit and those who don’t. Anyone who does not like the city with it’s democratically elected Mayor can move out.

  6. I understand their frustration but this isn’t the answer. They are upset that they pay high arnona and the like but the newest parks are almost entirely in the other part of town, roads are in disrepare etc.

But Us Versus Them is not the answer. And will never be the answer.

  7. Foolishness. We are one nation with one language and one daas and one land. We must learn to live with each other with respect.
