Threats of a Coalition Crisis Over Zero VAT Bill

labiMK (Likud) Yariv Levin, who is the coalition chairman as well as chairman of the Knesset House Committee has informed Yesh Atid leader Finance Minister Yair Lapid that he will not permit the committee to continue advancing his Zero VAT Bill. Levin explained the Prime Minister’s Office is not on board and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu opposes the bill, and as such the bill is being delayed.

Speaking to the daily Yisrael Hayom Levin admits he was not instructed to do so by the Prime Minister’s Office, but he feels common sense compels him to act as he is. He is not convening the committee, adding he does not fear a coalition crisis. “Yesh Atid is threatening. That is fine. I don’t recall a single day that Yesh Atid doesn’t threaten” he explained.

Back in Yesh Atid, party officials insist there will be no compromise on the passage of the bill and that the prime minister gave his word that he would back the bill. Leading national economists are warning passage of the bill into law would result in economic disaster. For Lapid and his colleagues, if boxed into a corner they may break away from the coalition in an effort to bring down the government.

Following the release of recent polls, all showing Yesh Atid dropping to less than half of its current 19 seats, many feel that Lapid may threaten but he is not in any rush to go to elections for he realizes the result will not be a pretty one for his party.

Talk about apologizing before Yom Kippur. But this is probably not what you had in mind.

Israeli Finance Minister Yair Lapid, in a post on his Facebook page on Erev Yom Kippur, apologized for not yet drafting chareidim, initiating civil marriage and providing public transportation on Shabbos.

“I have what to apologize for, Master of the Universe, but not for mistakes we [in the Yesh Atid party] made, but for what we have not yet changed,” Lapid wrote on his page

  2. Pretty Boy is an arrogant dolt who has accomplished nothing in his life. Like his father, he has exploited the psychotic hatred that a certain group has for Torah. Also like his father, he will be a one time phenomena.
