Mrs. Dafna Meir HY’D Recently Expressed Feelings and Concerns Regarding the Difficult Situation

dafMrs. Dafna Meir HY”D, who was murdered in Otniel on Sunday night, was buried in Har Menuchos on Monday morning, 8 Shevat.

Mrs. Meir recently published a letter that expressed her feelings and concerns vis-à-vis the ongoing wave of Palestinian terror attack, which began on erev Rosh Hashanah 5776.

In her letter, she speaks of her concerns because of the difficult security realities, particularly in her region. She wrote “I cannot help but to think about what has been done and what must be done and must not be done especially for those on the road, including my husband, children and friends…At times I view this difficult situation like Russian Roulette…From time to time I meet with my colleagues in the medical community who give of their free time to serve on emergency response teams in the area…They are equipped with communications devices and respond around-the-clock…This includes at night, in the middle of a shower, on Shabbos and I wonder, do they sleep with their shoes on?”

“Of late many of the calls were not good ones, not emergency calls to deliver a child. At times the call to deliver a child is from a Palestinian woman. This is no longer a burning issue after we saw the Red Crescent ambulance unwilling to assist at the scene of a murder [ referring to the murder of Rabbi Litman and his son Netanel HY”D]”.

She speaks about how the EMS responders enter dangerous areas, wondering who they will meet and encounter. “We live in a terrible reality”.

Following the fatal attack, President Reuven Rivlin spoke with the head of the Har Hebron Regional Council, Yochai Damari.

President Rivlin offered his support, and requested he convey his concern and sympathies to all the residents of the community. The President also asked to be updated on anyway in which he could help. He said, “This is a horrific tragedy, and I am with you with all of my heart. This is shocking and terrible. At this time of grief, disbelief, and pain, I am sure you are focused on doing all that is needed in order to help the family and all the residents of the community.”

Damari thanked the President for his support, and updated him on the current situation on the ground. He said, “I greatly appreciate your calling at this difficult time and I will pass on your words to the family. I have faith and trust that the security services will find the terrorist sooner or later, and that they are doing everything possible in order to return a sense of security to the community as swiftly as possible.”
