Chief Rabbis Request a Meeting with PM Netanyahu

icrChief Rabbis of Israel Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita have requested a meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in connection with the decision to move the Jewish Consciousness Unit in the IDF from the IDF Rabbinate to the Manpower Branch.

The request submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office was labeled “urgent” as the Chief Rabbis appear to be joining the chareidi parties in trying to prevent the move, which was ordered by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott.

In their letter the Chief Rabbis explain the natural home for this unit is obviously under the IDF Rabbinate and not elsewhere.

The rabbonim request to meet as soon as possible to provide them an opportunity to explain the significance of the move and why the unit must remain under the command of the IDF Rabbinate.
