Egypt Gave The Go-Ahead For Israeli Drone Strikes In Sinai

1A former Israeli official is quoted telling Bloomberg that in recent years, Egypt has given Israel permission to operate in Sinai, citing the level of cooperation between Israel and Egypt today is the best it has ever been.

The report cites that Israel carried out a number of drone strikes against terrorist targets in Sinai, strikes that received Egypt’s blessing.

The timing of the Bloomberg report coincides with this week’s visit to Jerusalem by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. Shoukry met with PM Netanyahu to discuss a number of current event issues, including the stalled talks between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority).

The high-level visit signals improved ties between Jerusalem and Cairo, lending credibility to statements made by Mr. Netanyahu regarding relations between the country. It now appears that Egypt may once again resume its former role as primary mediator between Israel and the PA and Hamas. During the visit Shoukry reportedly offered to host continuing negotiations between Israel and the PA, stating, committed to bridging the gaps towards an agreement, which Shoukry states will enhance regional peace and stability.
