Newt Gingrich To Announce 2012 Run On Wednesday

The long wait for Newt Gingrich to say what everyone already knew is almost over.

The former House Speaker will announce his presidential candidacy Wednesday on Facebook and Twitter, according to his spokesman. Rick Tyler wrote on Twitter Monday morning that Gingrich will make it official, give his first interview as a White House candidate on Fox News, and then speak to Georgia Republicans at their annual convention on Friday.

Just minutes later, Gingrich himself took to Twitter. “Be sure to watch Hannity this Wednesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT,” he said. “I will be on to talk about my run for President of the United States.”

  1. Between possible candidate Rudy Giuliani and this guy Newt, two possible Republican candidates have 6 wives – more than the average Arab sheik. I guess the family values platform is out the window this time around.

  2. No. 2: I know little about Herman Cain. How many wives does he have?

I understand Cain is running on the Reagan nonsense that government is the problem, not the solution. So few Republicans are willing to admit that there is a role for government in this world. The financial crisis of 2008 that has led to the economic anemia since then is in large measure a result of the inadequate regulation of financial institutions that commenced with Reagan and continued until 2008. And the financial institutions that pushed the US economy into recession continue to resist every attempt to rein in their risky excesses.

The financial regulatory scheme that was put into place in response to the Great Depression worked well into the 1980’s, but the charming Mr. Reagan sold America on the notion that financial regulation was unnecessary. The collapse of 2008 is clear evidence that financial regulation is necessary.

And speaking of serial polygomy, how is it that the party of family values has 3 candidates with a total of 9 wives – Newt (3), Rudy (3), and The Donald (3)? And that’s without counting the number of wives that that thing on The Donald’s head has.
