Senior firearms officers from the Metropolitan Police’s elite CO19 Unit visited NW London to engage with the Jewish community.

The evening started with a high level tour of Shul’s in NW London and a briefing by Rabbi Pinchos Roberts shlit”a in Hendon Adass. The Senior Firearms Officer’s were given an overview on the Chareidi lifestyle and explained the central role played by the Shuls in the Torahdiker way of life.

This was followed by an interactive presentation attended by over 30 Shomrim London NW members at The Pillar hotel in Hendon.

The presentation consisted of both desktop exercises as well as training on the Metropolitan Police’s brand new, state-of-art laser range. This was then followed by a question and answer session.

The laser range is a highly impressive and totally interactive, new addition to the Metropolitan Police’s firearms capability. This range plays life size scenarios and the trainees get the opportunity to use two specially adapted laser handguns. This enabled the Shomrim NW volunteers to understand and appreciate the awesome challenge faced by the elite CO19 firearms officers on a day to day basis.

The heavily armed CO19 unit responds to over 10,000  gun related incidents  a year in London alone. In only 3 incidents last year were gunshots actually fired by the unit. This demonstrates the enormous restraint exercised by Police.

Chief inspector Rob Atkin praised Shomrim NW for their vital work to keep the Chareidi community safe. This visit is part of an ongoing engagement project undertaken by Shomrim NW to further enhance the unique relationship between Shomrim NW & London’s emergency services.
