Bush Gives First Public Reaction To Bin Laden Death; Claims No Credit For Himself

Former President George W. Bush made his first candid public comments on the killing of Osama bin Laden during an appearance Wednesday at a conference of hedge fund managers in Las Vegas.

“I was eating souffle at Rise Restaurant with Laura and two buddies,” Bush said when asked what he was doing when he received the call from President Obama, according to an ABC News contributor who attended the event.

“I excused myself and went home to take the call,” Bush said. “Obama simply said ‘Osama Bin Laden is dead.'”

Bush said Obama described in detail the secret mission to raid bin Laden’s Pakistani compound and the decision he made to put the plan into motion. He told Obama, “Good call.”

When asked by forum moderator Melissa Lee of CNBC how he felt upon learning the news, Bush said he was “not overjoyed,” explaining that the campaign to track down the 9/11 mastermind was done not “out of hatred but to exact judgment.”

The development is ultimately a victory for the American people, he said.

“The guy is dead. That is good,” Bush said of bin Laden. “Osama’s death is a great victory in the war on terror. He was held up as a leader.”

“The intelligence services deserve a lot of credit. They built a mosaic of information, piece by piece,” he said, claiming no credit for himself.

  1. Thank you Mr. Bush for proving my point. We miss a humble man in the Oval Office. We miss a commander-in-chief that makes decisions according to circumstances not according to the polls. We miss someone who gives credit where it is due and appreciates the courage of our men & women in the military. We miss someone who pretends not to have the words: I, Me, Myself… in his dictionary.

You were replaced by an egoist that knows no bounds. We now have a rhetoric-in-chief that fails to understand the American public. One who takes credit for everything good but dismisses criticism to his predecessor. One who only has word like: I, Me, Myself… in his dictionary.

George, you have a place in history…

  2. Obama is the greatest President in US history. He singlehandedly tracked down US Enemy #1, something that eluded all other Presidents.

He definitely deserves 4 more years.

  3. Both Bush & Obama deserve credit.

Bush created a strong anti-terrorist infrastructure, which Obama is only now starting to appreciate. On the other hand, Bush diverted from the real goal of destroying al-kaida by invading Iraq and chasing saddam. He then prematurely declared the war on terror won and minimized the importance of getting osama.

Obama gave all his attention pursuing and ultimately destroying obl. Then, he rightfully announced the war on terror NOT over.

  4. Why the silly picture of Bush? Is that the way frum yidden should depict the President of a malchus shel chessed? Is this how we demonstrate hakoras hatov? Especially for a man who was very understanding of the needs of Yidden and Eretz Yisroel? I don’t think this is a kiddush Hashem.

No need to print this comment, but may I suggest you change the picture?

    Gut Shabbos!

  5. @Proudliberal – if you think that killing one person gets the worst president in history a free pass for another four years, then I am really sorry there is no IQ test to be a registered voter.

Yes I am glad that Osama Bin Laden has been deprived of his oxygen habit but in the end he is only one man.

The fight against terror continues on as do two pointless wars that can not be and will not be won with the liberal media doing it’s best to humanize the enemy and stir up anti war sentiment.

We have a bigger problem as a nation and that is not being able to pay our bills. Socialist and entetitlement programs are sacred cows and no politician has the gumption to do whats neccessary to reign in the endless spending.

Yes we disposed of an enemy to America but the great congressman from Arizona once said “I am convinced that there are more threats to American liberty within the 10 mile radius of my office on Capitol Hill than there are on the rest of the globe”

As long as the government sees fit to spend money it doesnt have, we are all in danger

  6. @ProudLiberal, Obama singlehandedly tracked Bin Laden? Really? No other organization helped? No Gitmo leads? No leads from anyone in Iraq or Afghanistan?…if that is true, then we shouldn’t have term limits. I’d vote for him for the next three elections.

  7. Obama deserves credit for continuing Bush’s anti-terror policies (even though he said he wouldn’t during the campaign, he correctly changed course after taking office [with a little Congressional prodding]).

  8. I would say that Bush deserves far more credit than Obama. Bush gave extra support to an intelligence community and processes that led to the killing. Obama regularly derided them, and tried (and continues to this day) to take the teeth out of our ability to do these kinds of things.
Obama gave the order to kill. Very nice. Happened on his watch, he gets credit. But that was after the intelligence apparatus came to him, and told him they fouind him, and that they devised a strategy to take him out. All he did was say, sounds like a good idea, go for it. Who wouldn’t say that?!
#4 is so over the top, that he’s probably on our side, trying to make the other side look silly. Singlehandedly?!?!?!

  9. Under Bush, Islamic immigration INCREASED to levels never seen under Democrats, those guys arrested yesterday can thank Bush for coming here. Bush should have started his “war on terror” right here in Brooklyn. Coney Island and Foster not in Iraq.

  10. ProudLiberal is a faker, a conservative who is just posting as a liberal in order to provoke a response. Otherwise known as a troll.

  11. I am so not a troll.
I am as liberal as they come. And proud of it.

What is your issue with me? That I say the truth? You can’t admit it! Obama is the best President in history, and yet you refuse to admit what is so obvious. Typical conservative Tea Party racists.

#10, the things that I say are opinions that millions of us in Main-stream America believe. I may say it as it is, while others (especially in politics) won’t say it, for fear of being labelled as anti-Semites by the Conservatives and the pro-Israel lobby.

I am not scared. In fact, I am proud.

  12. ProudLiberal : What exactly did you say that millions of Americans agree on? That Obama is a good president? If so, B”H that there are 300 million people in America. (I.e. The majority of Americans don’t say that.)

  13. To No. 2: Who, precisely, appointed you king? The subject of 4 of your 7 sentences is the first person plural pronoun, sometimes referred to as the “royal we”. Who, precisely, authorized you to speak for anyone but yourself. Please take a lesson from your imaginary vision of George the Humble and take the royal we out of your vocabulary.

And what is so humble about President Bush prancing across the deck of a US aircraft carrier in a flight suit, under a banner with the false claim of “Mission Accomplished,” when nothing was accomplished but the start of a war against a country that did not attack the US?

  14. ProudLiberal is a typical obama mania kool aid drinking drone. I’ll bet he cant list 5 good things Obama has done and why they are so good!
