Tornado Watch In Effect For New York City & Surrounding Areas

A tornado watch has been issued for the entire New York area until 8:00 p.m. as heat and humidity and an approaching cold front could fuel some big storms.

The watch area includes the following counties:

Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau, New York (Manhattan), Queens, Orange, Putnam, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland and Westchester in southeastern New York; Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union in New Jersey Fairfield and New Haven in Connecticut

A cooler, drier air mass will move in tonight behind that front. After a quick thunderstorm this evening (mainly south and east of the city), skies will clear and temperatures will drop into the 60s in the city and 50s in the suburbs.

Tomorrow will be breezy and less humid with lots of sunshine and highs around 80. This nice weather will continue into Friday and the weekend with highs in the upper 70s to around 80. There’s a slight chance of a thunderstorm later Sunday.
