Residents Upset With Brooklyn Yeshiva Over Students Throwing Rocks, Climbing Fences

The following is a WCBSTV Report:

Some Brooklyn homeowners in Sunset Park are demanding that a neighboring Yeshiva take action against a group of rowdy students.

Living next to a school is rarely a quiet affair, especially when class is in session.

But Jorge Toro says there’s no excuse for this kind of behavior. He says students are scaling the fence to get into his back yard.

“They come out like little animals out of there,” said Toro. “And they jump on the roof, they jump over the fence, they run out into the street.”

Toro says the students are also throwing rocks and other debris over their fence. “They broke my window four times,” he said.

So far, no one has been injured.

And when it isn’t raining rocks, residents say the Yeshiva students make a lot of noise.

When anything hits Toro’s medal fence, it makes a loud noise and he says that means sleeping any time between 7:30am and 7:30pm is simply out of the question.

“I’ve never heard noise like that before,” said resident George Ross. “They really went at it.”

We spoke with a Rabbi Simon who did not deny his students have been causing trouble.

He chalks up the excessive noise from the school yard and the rock throwing as “boys being boys.”

But he says the school isn’t ignoring the problem and has installed security cameras to try to catch the troublemakers.

Rabbi Simon says the students responsible for the vandalism could face expulsion.

  1. Expulsion of students in not the answer to this Chilil Hashem. Installing camera’s is not the solution for PROPER adult supervision of children. I put full blame on those that are in charge of this yeshiva.
It is imperative that all yeshivas learn that in order for our children to be Talmid chachamin they must first be a Mentch or all that your yeshiva will have as its credit is Chamorim who know how to learn. It is clear that the time has come for a little less Gemarah and a lot more Mussar!!

  2. If the principal really said this is a case of boys being boys then he should not be in the chinuch business.

It’s embarassing that a yeshiva has to install a security camera for this type of stuff instead of the purpose of preventing terrorists from entering the yeshiva.

  3. At one time schoolyards were supervised by teachers before and after school, during recess and lunch hour. Isn’t this done anymore? Kids will be kids and that is why adult supervision is essential. It sounds as if this school has really fallen down on the job. Aside from supervision, the children need to be taught about respect – for others and for others’ property. It slso appears that the parents of these students aren’t doing a great job, either. Just because they pay for their children to go to school does not mean that they can absolve themselves of the responsibility of teaching good manners and good behaviour.

  4. Can you imagine if the story was about a Crown Heights public school and someone used the term “animals”?…..

  5. In reading around about this story, I have gotten a better handle on it than what is here. It seems this complainer looks for things to complain about. Can you honestly tell me there is CONSTANT noise from 7a to 7p? NO WAY!!

AS for the pix of the kids climbing over a fence, I am sure they are doing it to get back a ball. Who didnt do that when we were in school?!? They are wreaking havoc? NO WAY!

Just say, “I HATE THE YESHIVA!! I WANT THEM OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!!,” and that would be enough.

  6. “When anything hits Toro’s medal fence, it makes a loud noise”

Would that be the gold or silver?

Seriously, what school of journalism graduated this reporter/writer?
