Hundreds Gather In Tel Aviv To Mark 22nd Anniversary Of Rabin Assassination

Several hundred people gathered in Tel Aviv on Tuesday night to mark the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin. Among the speakers was former Mossad Director Danny Yatom.

The official state ceremony took place on Wednesday, 12 Cheshvan at noon, in the President’s Residence followed by the official ceremony at the gravesite on Mount Herzl at 3:00pm. A special Knesset session began at 5:00pm.

Over the years, interest in participating in memorial events for the slain prime minister has waned, as is evident by the turnout for the Tel Aviv event.

Many right-wing public officials explain that while they did not agree with his hashkafa, they would participate and show their solidarity as they were obviously opposed to the assassination. However, they explain organizers of the memorial event make it clear, that the right-wing presence is unwanted.

At another memorial, held at Gan HaEm in Haifa on Tuesday evening, an estimated 3,000 people were in attendance.
