President Reuven Rivlin has sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, and a number of Knesset committees expressing opposition to a clause in the proposed Nationality Law that permits yishuvim and moshavim to turn down requests from non-Jews wishing to reside in the community.
Sharing the presidents concerns is Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who has expressed his opposition to the clause permitting communities from barring non-Jews.
President Rivlin refers to Paragraph 7B of the proposed law, which states, The state may allow the community, including members of one religion or of one nationality, to maintain separate communal settlement.
Those opposed fear this clause may be used against Jews around the world and in the State of Israel.
