Feiglin’s IDF Soldier Son Causes Controversy About Arabs; Father Defends His Son

Moshe Feiglin, who heads the Jewish Leadership party (Manhigut Yehudit), explains to the media that he stands behind his soldier son completely, referring to comments made by his son Avi, that he would defy orders if told to act to spare additional Arab injuries at the expense of placing IDF soldiers in additional danger.

Avi Feiglin, who serves in the Kfir infantry brigade, called on his fellow soldiers to refuse orders that would place them in life-threatening danger to avoid injury to Arabs involved in violence and confrontations, as often seen along the Gaza border and areas of Yehuda and Shomron.

Moshe Feiglin got his message of support of Avi to the public using his Facebook page last week, explaining the incident occurred months ago during a lecture for the soldiers, when an officer discussed an operation that took place years ago near Migdal Ohz in Gush Etzion. The operation entailed the apprehension of terrorists who used the location to fire at soldiers. The officer explained how IDF sharpshooters would identify the shooters when soldiers were placed in the field as ‘bait’ for the terrorists, and then fire at the feet of terrorists, just wounding them.

It is reported Avi Feiglin took umbrage to the statement. He questioned why soldiers had to be placed in harm’s way, in front of the terrorists’ sights, to permit sharpshooters to target them. Avi feels that the commander who called the mission a “success” should be booted from the military and jailed for such an unacceptable plan of operation.

In short, Avi said that obeying an order to satisfy the need to appear politically correct cannot override the safety of IDF soldiers and called on his comrades in arms to disobey any such order. Moshe Feiglin backed his son’s outlook, commending his sense of right and wrong. He explained that all too often in recent years, soldiers have been killed as a result of seeking to avoid injury to others, what he calls “a hostile population”, adding most of the deaths of soldiers in recent years were a result of this unacceptable policy.

He adds it is absurd to constantly announce red line which may not be crossed instead of sending soldiers into the enemy to deal with them as the situation demands, rather than waiting for them to continue crossing red lines.

Feiglin expresses his pride over his son’s position, as one who is more concerned with the safety of his fellow soldiers rather than officers and politicians whose concern is the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

  1. Endangering your soldiers or your civilian population to benefit the enemy is treason. Traitors should be removed, tried and if convicted, executed for their crimes. The Americans have an efficient method for dealing with officers who unnecessarily endanger their troops. It is called fragging. I hope we never see it in Israel but at some point someone could say enough and act. We have already seen counter attacks against the police.
