Anger In Slonim Over Leaks To The Press Over Matters Of ‘Pikuach Nefesh’

There is anger among the leaders of the Slonim chassidus after letters were leaked to the media, reported by BeChadrei Chareidim. One letter was from Rosh Yeshivas Ohr Yisrael HaGaon HaRav Yigal Rozen, who sent a letter to Rosh Yeshivas Slonim HaGaon HaRav Moshe Brazovsky, who responded with his letter. Slonim has now told BeChadrei they will no longer respond to letters for fear they will find their way to the media.

Sources in Slonim spoke with BeChadrei to explain the exchange of letters between Gedolei Yisrael, which are leaked repeatedly to the media and therefore, Slonim is refraining from responding again, amid the awareness the response will be leaked as was the case with earlier letters.

These sources explain they will find the way to address the matters at hand without having to continue the letters for they are no longer willing to risk the exposure to the media on such vital matters, matters which they refer to as “pikuach nefesh for the yeshiva world” and these issues have no place in the press.

BeChadrei on erev and motzei Shabbos exposed the exchange of letters taking place between the roshei yeshiva mentioned above, dealing with the draft law and the difference of opinion that exists surrounding that legislation, which is critical to the bnei Torah and the future of yeshivos in Eretz Yisrael.

Rav Rosen questions how Rav Brazovsky is bold enough to accept the full weight of his decision on his shoulders regarding the draft law, citing he is “endangering bnei Torah”. In response, Rav Brazovsky insists that despite promises, the IDF will do anything within its power to meet induction goals to avoid a situation in which it must draft bnei yeshivos against their will.

Slonim maintains its firm position, opposing any flexibility, fearing doing so will lead to more bnei Torah taken into the military, while Rav Rozen seems to feel that there are realities and the least of the evils available might be the wise choice at present. Slonim throughout the years has maintained a hardline approach pertaining to cooperating with IDF officials and the drafting of bnei Torah.

Since these letters were leaked, appearing in BeChadrei, Slonim has announced it will not continue this form of communications, exchanging letters, for it is clear there are some who are willing to risk the bnei Torah’s future for the media hype.

  1. putting the leaks aside , reading both letters carefully shed light on the gravity of the shaloh . and how each tzad feels they are walking a tightrope and only want to do ratzon hahsem

  2. nothing is safe from the press hounds unless they hold a private, face to face meeting in a room that has been swept for hidden recording devices.
