Netanyahu’s First Private Law

After twenty years in the political arena, opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, the last day of the Knessets winter session, succeeded in passing a private bill presented to the parliament.

Netanyahus bill makes it illegal to invest in any company maintaining ties with Iran. The new law also stipulates violators face a year in prison.

Netanyahu explained that Iran poses a legitimate threat to the world, especially Israel, and Tehrans nuclear program must be stopped.

For many of his years in public service, Netanyahu served as a deputy minister, minister and prime minister, all barred from submitting private bills. He has however authored a number of non-private bills that were passed into law.
