Israeli Man Arrested For Attacking Arab Bus Driver In Modi’in Illit

Earlier in the week, YWN-Israel reported that an Arab bus driver was attacked by Jewish youths while operating his route in Modi’in Illit. The attackers reportedly blocked the bus with a car and then boarded and assaulted the driver, who was hospitalized with a broken eye socket and severe bruises.

Police on Monday report the investigation into the case is moving ahead, and a resident of Modi’in Illit in his 20s was taken into custody as a suspect in the case.

The suspect was arraigned in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

There are many drivers operating on the route, and they insist this is not the first time one of them was assaulted, in what they perceive to be retaliation following terrorist attacks targeting Jews. Following that attack, on Sunday morning, drivers of the Kavim Company held a strike and work slowdown for hours in a symbolic protest over the attacks.

  1. I have heard from those involved that this had nothing to do with his being either an Arab nor a bus driver, and it did not have to do with the attacker having a random fit of rage. This was a criminal matter, a settling of accounts unrelated to the bus company/route/modiin elite.
I think most people intuit that already, but as Takes2 has intimated that bucharim with nothing to do go out and randomly smash up bus drivers (when was the last time that happened??) I felt it would be correct to straighten things out. I am not commenting on the propriety of the attack itself. As the article noted, the attacker was arrested.
