Israel: Teachers Union Threatening Opening Day Of School Year With A Strike


Will Israeli public elementary and junior high schools strike the opening day of the 2019-2020 school year? According to Teachers’ Union director-general, Yafeh ben David, in her Monday evening announcement threatened if agreement is not reached with the Finance Ministry regarding the salaries of teachers, the teachers will strike opening day of the new school year, News12 announced.

The union is demanding improved salary conditions pertaining to two specific areas; teachers’ pensions and changing the system by which sick days are calculated. Today, teachers are charged 1.4 sick days for each sick day taken. The union wants this changed, and according to the report, the treasury is on board but to date, has not done a thing to change it.
