Report: Advanced Israeli Missile Falls into Russian Hands

News outlets in the Far East were reporting Wednesday morning that a missile from the Israeli David’s Sling interceptor system was discovered in Syria and transferred to the Russian military.

The unconfirmed report, which originated from the Chinese news site SINA, claims that the interceptor missile missed its target, believed to be a Syrian anti-aircraft missile, and landed on the Syrian Golan Heights without suffering any major damage.

Israel fired a surface-to-air missile, the advanced ‘David’s Sling’ missile to down two missiles fired into Israel from Syria. The missile missed its intended target and landed in Syria.

The Russians found the advanced missile, and after it was neutralized and deactivated, it was shipped to Russia to permit engineers to study its technology. The Russian military banned any publication of the discovery of the missile at the time.

The missile in question was developed in a joint effort by Israeli and American engineers and the advanced technology plays a vital role in Israel’s ballistic missile defense.

The IDF Spokesman’s Office responded to reports and said they are unwilling to “address foreign reports”.

  1. Not the biggest deal. The only truly sensitive part would be the workings of the datalink to any guidance/launcher units, and knowing what wavelengths the seeker operates on. The datalink encryption can always be changed and probably is in a rolling manner, and the seeker guts while not exactly public knowedge, aren’t exactly secret enough to take a bullet for, and are constantly upgraded to meet new threats.
