Prosecution to “Go Light” on Suspected Murderer of Miriam Peretz A”H

It appears the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office appears to be heading to reducing the severity of the criminal indictment to be filed against Beit Safafa resident Majid Ilan, in whose home the lifeless body of Miriam Peretz A”H was recently found.

Peretz, a child of a chareidi family who nebach became involved in drugs, disappeared, and her body was found in the home of Ilan in the Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Beit Safafa.

The indictment that was scheduled to be filed against Ilan on Wednesday was not filed, and it appears the prosecution is delaying because it has decided to file a less severe indictment against the suspect, one for leading the innocent victim to drugs. The official notification has been provided to the attorney for the Peretz family, Itamar Ben-Gvir. The body of the 17-year-old was found in Ilan’s home about two weeks ago after she was missing for a period of time.

The family is of course disappointed and angered that the death of their daughter is not being attributed to Ilan. They do not plan to remain silent it is reported, “until the murderer is brought to justice”.

The family believes that he drugged her, and she did not take the lethal dose voluntarily, and he caused her death directly. A brother of the nifteres, Yosef Peretz told the media, “If they do not charge him with murder it will be shocking. Not manslaughter but murder. This will only add to the severity of what occurred.”

Majid Ilan, 55, a resident of Beit Safafa in whose home the nifteres was found, was in a facility for youths at risk and persons addicted to drugs. During an arraignment hearing, police explained the family of the suspect summoned police to their home, explaining Miriam and Ilan met the night before in Tel Aviv. Ilan maintains they met in a place where drugs are sold.
