A media furor in Israel arose after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu published a post on Twitter overnight Motzei Shabbos asserting that he had received absolutely no warnings from the heads of the Shin Bet and IDF intelligence about the Hamas assault.

Netanyahu wrote: “Contrary to the false claims, under no circumstances and at no stage was I provided any warning on the intentions of Hamas to wage war. On the contrary, all the security sources, including the heads of the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate and Shin Bet, assessed that Hamas was deterred. This was the assessment submitted time after time to the prime minister and the cabinet by all the sources in the defense and the intelligence community right up until the outbreak of the war.”

Netanyahu issued the statement in the wake of questions he received at a press conference he held on Motzei Shabbos – the first time he publicly responded to questions from the press since the war began. The prime minister was questioned about claims that he received specific warnings about an increased chance of war from the heads of the  Shin Bet and IDF intelligence.

The tweet provoked a storm of criticism, including from Netanyahu’s new government partner, Benny Gantz.

In response, Netanyahu deleted the tweet on Sunday and later issued an apology, stating: “I was wrong. The statements I made following the press conference [on Motzei Shabbos] should not have been said and I apologize for it. I give full support to all the heads of the security agencies. I support the IDF Chief of Staff and IDF officers and soldiers who are at the front and are fighting for our home. Together, we’ll be victorious.”

  1. Watch as his true colors come out.
Bibi worship was a fad, an obsession based on hero worship and not much else. All fads eventually go out of style.

  2. There is both a time and a place for this conversation.
Probably multiple times in multiple places for this conversation.
The time for this conversation to happen in the public sphere is not now.
Once the war is fully prosecuted, there will be plenty of time to adjudicate who knew what and when they knew it.
Asfour, whose career should end over this, and who should be allowed to just use this as a learning experience, I don’t even begin to fathom.

In general, idol worship never lasts. Eventually, the futility of the idol becomes clear to even those initially fooled by the idol.

  4. Bibi is the owner of the failed policy to play Hamas off the PA. It’s obviously a complete failure along with his entire government. The number one responsibility of a government is to protect the people. This government was failing to do so even before Simchat Torah. I will not vote for any of these people again. Happy to stay home on election day if that is the only alternative.

  5. Golfer/ Hakatan, Bibi Is around for almost 30 years beginning with winning the ’96 elections. He Is PM since 2009 with a short brake in between. He is the longest serving PM in Israel’s history. He has a very high IQ. You might not like him but this isn’t a Trump or even Biden who both are a shame for the USA as president.

  6. I always knew that the left would want to bring him down any way possible even if it means to get their own citizens slaughtered , I 100% believe what he says that he didn’t know . Its time to realize that left is evil.

  8. What’s the meaning “the buck stops here”?

Beside that he goofed terribly. He should’ve sticked to: we’ll discuss everything AFTER the war!
