Orthodox Union Advocacy Center Backs Gov. Huckabee for U.S. Ambassador to Israel

Governor Mike Huckabee prepares for his new role as U.S. Ambassador to Israel with a prayer at the Ohel of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT'L.

The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center (OUA), the public policy arm of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, submitted a letter this morning urging the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to confirm Governor Mike Huckabees nomination as U.S. Ambassador to Israel.

In a letter to Chairman James Risch (R-ID), Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and all Senators on the Committee, OUA emphasizes Gov. Huckabees longstanding support for Israels security and his recognition of the Jewish peoples historical connection to the land of Israel, positions shared by many American Jews, particularly following the October 7 Hamas attack. While the Orthodox Union does not generally take positions on nominees, it made an exception because some Jewish groups have claimed to speak for all American Jewry in opposing and misrepresenting Gov. Huckabees views.

Nathan Diament, Executive Director of OU Advocacy, addressed misconceptions about Huckabees views, highlighting Huckabees alignment with many in the American Jewish community.

Governor Huckabee brings a profound understanding of the security challenges confronting Israel and an unwavering commitment to the U.S.-Israel alliance, said Diament. His perspective is vital at a time when American policy must address the ongoing threats from Iranian-backed terror groups, a reality made painfully clear since the October 7th Hamas attack.

Rejecting claims that Huckabees views are extreme, the Orthodox Union asserts that meaningful peace requires Palestinian recognition of Israels legitimacy. The organization also expresses gratitude for the Christian Zionist communitys support against rising antisemitism and affirms Huckabees commitment to defending Israels right to exist in peace and security.

“We deeply value the support of the Christian Zionist community, including Governor Huckabee, in standing against antisemitism and defending Israels right to exist in peace and security,” Diament added. “His nomination reflects a principled commitment to these issues, which is especially vital at this critical moment.”
