Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement Monday reaffirming Israel’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, while accusing Hamas of exploiting the crisis to manipulate global public opinion.
In the English-language statement, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Israel “will continue to work with international agencies, as well as the US and European nations to ensure that large amounts of humanitarian aid flows into the Gaza Strip.”
According to the PMO, Israel allows daily shipments of food, water, and medicine into the enclave, despite the ongoing war with Hamas.
“While the situation in Gaza is difficult and Israel has been working to ensure aid delivery,” the statement read, “Hamas benefits from attempting to fuel the perception of a humanitarian crisis.”
The Israeli government alleged that Hamas not only diverts aid meant for civilians but also violently suppresses Gazans who attempt to access supplies. “Hamas steals aid from Gazans, including by shooting them,” the statement claimed, without citing specific incidents.
Netanyahu’s office further accused the terrorist group of waging an information war, saying Hamas “has been releasing unverified numbers to the news media while circulating images that are carefully staged or manipulated.”
The statement comes amid mounting international criticism over civilian suffering in Gaza, where UN officials and humanitarian organizations have warned of worsening food insecurity, displacement, and lack of medical care.
The Israeli government, however, maintains that the responsibility lies with Hamas.
“We’ll continue to act responsibly, as we always have, and we’ll continue to seek the return of our hostages and the defeat of Hamas,” the statement concluded. “That is the only way to secure peace for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
