David Zini has officially assumed his position as the new head of the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Zini and wished him success “in the enormous mission facing him.”
The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to the officer who had been serving as acting head of the agency pending Zini’s appointment — whose identity remains under security restrictions and cannot be published.
Zini was first nominated by Netanyahu in May to succeed former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. Bar was dismissed by a cabinet vote on March 21 after Netanyahu announced he had lost confidence in his ability to continue leading the agency, following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.
