IDF Dismantles Four Hamas Terror Tunnels Near the Yellow Line in Gaza

Israeli forces operating along the so-called Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip uncovered and dismantled four Hamas terror tunnels over the past month, the IDF announced Sunday night.

The tunnels, discovered in the Khan Yunis region of southern Gaza, were part of an extensive Hamas underground network used for smuggling fighters and weapons toward Israeli-controlled zones, the military said. In addition to the tunnel demolitions, troops under the IDF Southern Command located and destroyed dozens of Hamas terrorist infrastructure sites, seizing large quantities of arms and explosives.

“IDF troops operating under the Southern Command continue to operate near the Yellow Line to remove any immediate threat to the troops and to Israeli civilians,” the army said in a statement.

The Yellow Line—a narrow security buffer spanning the north, center, and south of Gaza—was established as part of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that came into effect on October 10, ending two years of intense conflict. Under the truce’s terms, Israel agreed to withdraw most of its forces from the Strip while retaining control over a limited corridor along this line to prevent renewed attacks.

Despite the agreement, the ceasefire has been repeatedly strained by Hamas violations, including the fatal shooting of three IDF soldiers and several infiltration attempts across the Yellow Line. The Israeli military has responded with targeted retaliatory strikes and what it described as “lethal defensive measures” against armed operatives attempting to breach the boundary.

While the truce technically remains in place, Israeli defense officials say Hamas has continued to test its limits, using the lull to rebuild some of its operational capabilities.

Military officials said Sunday’s announcement reflects the IDF’s broader goal of preventing Hamas from reestablishing a foothold in evacuated areas and ensuring that Israeli border communities are not again exposed to tunnel-based attacks.
