Jewish New Yorkers are increasingly seeking gun licenses and training following the election of mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, according to a NY Post report.
Michael Bergida, owner of Samson Armory in Marine Park, said his new shop is suddenly packed with anxious community members. “We’re probably the only gun store to have a minyan,” he said, adding that he expects “chaos” under the incoming administration. He emphasized the need for Jewish self-protection, saying “Never again.”
Firearms instructors report the same trend. Lance Dashefsky said, “It’s getting busy because of him,” noting that when he asks students why they want a gun, “now the answer is Mamdani.”
NYPD data show conceal-carry permit requests rising 14% following Mamdani’s primary win.
Instructor Ross Den noted that many who were hesitant in the past are now moving forward, explaining that “shul is where the greatest threat is.”
One mother reflected the concern felt by many families: “We are Jewish and we will protect ourselves – even if the mayor despises us.”

“Never Again” is at least border-line, if not worse, heretical. It implies that the destruction of Jews that happened in the past can be physically prevented from happening again. The truth is that Hashem runs Klal Yisrael on Torah and mitzvos, not on politics. If they feel that this is the right thing for them to do then that’s their business. But please leave heretical slogans out of it.
It’s almost impossible to get a handgun license in NYC.
1, In the event of a pogrom, in which the city police and the state government and the federal government (post-Trump) are deliberately uninvolved, it will take more than handguns. At that point, we would need sufficient force to close down the country (e.g. seize airports, take control of the power grids and telecommunications, etc). Not to mention either us, or the Israelis would have have the military strength to hold off an American attack. The “worse case scenario” is the largely united goyim trying to kill us (cf. what would have happened in World War II ended with all of Europe including Britain, and all of North America, under German control).
2. Unless one has seriously trained with firearms, not to mention other aspects of military training, such as physical fitness and ability to function under very stressful conditions, mere gun ownership is not enough. An “amateur” is more likely to shoot himself (or herself) rather than stop a pogrom.
3. Israel should be getting ready for the worse case scenario, whereas at present they are vulnerable when attacked my sex-craved terrorists on motor cycles.
4. We should be talking about a relatively orderly migration either to “red states” (e.g. Florida, Texas, etc.) or to Eretz Yisrael. Those who own real property in New York will “take a bath”.

Good luck to the first Jew who uses it in self-defense and watches the riots that come out from a Jew killing a non Jew that started with him. That’ll be the end of all those permits that’s for sure and probably the end of his freedom too
What we should be worried isn’t a mugging and having to plead self-defence. Muggers are a nuisance, not an existential threat. We need to worry about is a pogrom. In many contexts, the far left of the American system has been engaging if violence against their enemies, often with a religious, ethnic or political goal – and in general, “blue” local and state governments have been reluctant to stop them.
We need to consider a situation, not unlike 1991 in Crown Heights, but on a bigger scale – where the police are ordered not to interfere with the “protest”, the governor and president (assume this is after the Democrats return to power) believe they will alienate their “base” if they intervene, and using the successful Hamas attack tactics of Oc.t 7, 2023, the “Bring the intifada to New York” people are engaged in mass murder, rape and arson in frum neighborhoods.
Moving to “red” areas, or to Eretz Yisrael is an option. We have many schools and summer camps that can replace “phys ed fun” and “summer games” with serious fitness training and usable skills (use of firearms, first aid, manufacturing things you don’t want our enemies to know about, unarmed combat such as Krav Maga, etc.). We also need to remember that in spite of them being in control of the Democratic Party, our enemies have relatively little support, especially outside of the “blue” pockets (which unfortunately is where most Yidden live).
