Um el-Fahm Flag March Delayed


Police on Sunday announced the Monday Israeli flag march scheduled to take place in the Israeli Arab municipality of Um el-Fahm will be delayed for security considerations.

Police explain that intelligence source report that there will be violence, rioting, in reaction to the march, Israelis carrying flags in the Israeli Arab municipality. Police add they will reevaluate the situation in two weeks.

Earlier in the day, retired Israel Police Northern District Commander Alik Ron sated he would not permit a march at this time, following the expulsion of residents from Bet HaShalom in Chevron and the violence that followed between Jews and Arabs in that city.

Acting Umm al-Fahm Mayor Mustafa Souhil praised the decision while Itamar Ben-Gavir, one of the march organizers called it a “shame to law in Israel”. Ben-Gavir, who petitioned the High Court of justice together with Baruch Marzel to obtain permission for the parade now plan to return to the court seeking a contempt ruling against Police Chief Dudi Cohen and Public Security Minister Avi Dichter.
