Lieberman: Free Shalit and Bring Hamas Down!

lieb512.jpgFollowing are the remarks made by Yisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Lieberman in his address to supporters in party headquarters.

I would like to thank all the supporters of Yisrael Beitenu, the hundreds of thousands who made a difficult decision. I think we have become a real party, the third largest in the State of Israel.

I would like to thank all the volunteers, from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat, all those workers and all those who worked around the clock to achieve this reality. Thanks to the MKs and those on our list. Thanks to my family during a difficult time, always giving support. If someone is really missing, it is my friend [the late MK] Yuri Stern z”l, who was with me the entire way.

What makes us different from all the other parties? You saw on television, all the speeches are more or less the same. We on the other hand are the only ones celebrating our victory in Jerusalem is Yisrael Beitenu!

As we are the only party of the four large parties with its main campaign headquarters in Jerusalem. In addition, another central point that puts us in our own class is that we defined our platform  and priorities, exhibiting a commitment to our goals while the others just responded, lacking their own content.

The discussion and conflict surrounding our policy is an important one, one that will define the future of the State of Israel.

The national camp, the right-wing, has a definite majority and this is important. This is perhaps another proof that everything we stated earlier, the results of elections over and over again are increasingly complex and forming a coalition is increasingly difficult, pointing to the need of government reform, as Ehud Barak stated in his address. In current Knesset, Yisrael Beitenu raised the issued numerous times and everyone, without exception, opposed. I hope this election is final proof just how desperately a government reform is needed.

I hope that one of the dramatic changes in the new Knesset will be support for a change in government. We will cling to our platform and work expeditiously towards a change in government.

I know you are all waiting to hear. Local and international media are all aware that we, Yisrael Beitenu, hold the key to the next government. I am pleased we have the key – which also places responsibility on us. As such, as I have stated over and over again and reiterate here that we want a nationalistic right-wing government and we are prone towards such a reality. We are not hiding it. I hope this is a reality. I hope the final results will permit a right-wing strong government. Tonight, there will not be any decisions. Tomorrow, the party leaders will meet and the coalition negotiating team will be formed. I spoke with both Binyamin Netanyahu and Tzipi Livni tonight, and we do not rule out a partnership with anyone. We hide nothing. Everything is out in the open.

We have sustained continuous attacks during the campaign but we avoided entering into disputes. I think the party was done an injustice and we will not forget the behavior and anyone who does not realize there is a tomorrow, errs. We do not hold personal grudges but we have a platform and we will cling to it. First and foremost, the terror must end. No ceasefire, no discussion with Hamas, not agreements, but a decision and policy that will halt the terror.

There is no shortage of problems in Israel but the first two items on our agenda is the release of Gilad Shalit and bringing Hamas down. We will not accept any agreement that permits Hamas to remain in power in Gaza. Whatever government will rule, we will not join without obtaining Shalit’s release and bringing Hamas down. We will not continue waking every morning to reports of Katyusha and Kassam rocket attacks. It must end here. We can no longer permit the same policies as in the past and if the ruling party does not agree, we will not be a part of the coalition.

I suggest we wait another day or two until the final tabulation is in and we see exactly how many seats every party has.

I am certain Yisrael Beitenu is not only the key to the next government, but will play a pivotal role in defining the policies of the next government. Thanks to all…

  1. If he is backing down from his anti-frum positions, Likud has a “won” election. If he doesn’t, then Likud’s only way to from a government is by giving a major share of power to a left-wing party, Kadimah has a chance, and Kadimah and Labor have a strong incentive to form a coalition.

  2. please remember this man advocates giving land to the arabs and a palestinien state.

besides how can u bring hamas down and ask them to free shalit? is that not a total oxymoron?

  3. What sickens me is that this Lieberman dude fails to mention Hashem once in his speech. In the US, all political speeches end off with G-D bless or the like. This apikores is so entrenched in his anti religous agenda , he goes out of his way to make it known. You are a shame to the Jewish religion and you have no place even claiming to represent Jews. Go back to your native Russia and do what you did best there.

  4. gerald’s right – this is what a non-frum, or in this case, anti-frum leader will look like – a Jewish state where znus, chazir, avodah zara, shfichus damim, and gilui arayos are all approved of and 100% kosher according to the ‘Jewish’ state. Afra lepumei – I think of rav soloveitchik were to see this mess with the russian goyim(wouldn’t be surprised if lieberman is in reality a goy), he may have retracted his position.

  5. The same goes for the Likud. People don’t trust Netanyahu to be able to withstand international pressure, as he caved on Chevron

LIKUD was a loser when Bibi made an attack on Moshe Feiglin, he told the people that we are really not RIGHT WING and torah values is not #1 for us. He lost voters left and right. #6 & #7 you guys do not know or understand Lieberman at all, he is not anti religious, he lives a traditional life and has children who are shomer shabbos. There is no comparison bt his party and shinu or meretz. He is looking for Israel to live as an American democracy, separation of state and religion. (until Moshiach comes which is what the charedei parties want also!!, they have no nationalist concerns).
